Microneedling at Amina Beauty

Microneedling is the treatment we most often recommend at our Dunstable clinic for acne scarring and uneven texture, two concerns that clients from Houghton Regis, Luton and further afield tell us have bothered them for years. It works with your skin's own repair process, so the improvement is gradual and builds over a course.

It is not a quick fix, and we will be upfront about that. Collagen takes time to form, which is why sessions are spaced weeks apart and why the full picture is often clearer a few months after you finish.

Amina holds CPD training in microneedling. Your free consultation is a chance to show her the areas that bother you, hear what is realistic and decide whether a course feels right.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses very fine sterile needles to create thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin. The skin treats these as minor injuries and responds by producing new collagen and elastin, which over time can help soften scarring, refine texture and make pores look smaller.

The depth is adjusted for each area. Thinner skin around the eyes needs a lighter touch than the cheeks, for example, and scarred areas may be treated differently from areas where you simply want a smoother finish. A numbing cream is applied first so the treatment is comfortable for most people.

As well as the face, microneedling can be used on the neck and on body areas with stretch marks. We use sterile, single-use needle cartridges for every client.

What Happens on the Day

  1. Consultation

We look at your skin, ask about your health, medication and any history of cold sores or keloid scarring, and agree a plan for the course.

  2. Numbing

After cleansing, a numbing cream is applied and left to work so the treatment feels as comfortable as possible.

  3. Skin preparation

The numbing cream is removed and the skin is cleansed again and prepared so the area is as clean as possible before needling.

  4. Microneedling

Amina works across each area in a methodical pattern, adjusting the needle depth to suit the skin. Most people describe a light scratching or vibrating feeling.

  5. Calm and protect

A soothing serum is applied to settle the skin. We talk you through the next 48 hours and book your next session, usually about four weeks later.

Aftercare

  • Expect redness, like mild sunburn, for 24 to 48 hours
  • Avoid make-up for at least 24 hours
  • Keep your hands off the area and use clean pillowcases
  • Skip exercise, saunas and swimming for 48 hours
  • Use a gentle cleanser and wear SPF daily
  • Avoid retinoids and exfoliants until the skin has settled

Microneedling Questions

Does microneedling hurt?
We use a numbing cream before every session, and most people find it very manageable. Bonier areas such as the forehead and jawline can feel a little more sensitive than the cheeks.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people have a course of 3 to 6 sessions about four weeks apart. Deeper acne scarring usually needs more sessions than general texture concerns. Results vary and we cannot guarantee a specific outcome, but we will review your progress at each visit.
Who should not have microneedling?
It is not suitable during pregnancy, over active acne, infection, open wounds or an active cold sore, or if you are prone to keloid scarring. Some medications, including blood thinners and certain acne treatments, and conditions that affect healing also need discussing first.
How far is the clinic from Luton?
Our Dunstable clinic is a short drive from Luton, and right next to Houghton Regis. We also see clients from Toddington, Leighton Buzzard, St Albans, Harpenden and North London. We send the exact address when you book.
Can I go back to work the next day?
Usually yes. Your skin may still look a little pink the day after, and by then most people feel comfortable going out. Many clients book later in the week so the worst of the redness passes over the weekend.
