Chemical Peels in Dunstable

Chemical Peels at Amina Beauty

There is no single chemical peel that suits everyone, and that is the first thing we explain to clients who visit our Dunstable clinic from Houghton Regis, Luton and across Bedfordshire. The right acid, strength and timing depend on your skin type, how sensitive it is and what you would like to improve.

Some people want a light refresh before an event. Others are dealing with stubborn pigmentation, congested pores or marks left by breakouts. Each calls for a different approach, so we never pick a peel without seeing your skin first.

Amina will assess your skin at a free consultation, explain which peel she recommends and why, and be honest if she thinks a different treatment would serve you better.

What Is Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel uses carefully chosen acids to loosen and remove dead or damaged cells from the surface of the skin, encouraging fresher skin to come through. We work with superficial to medium peels. Depending on your needs this might be glycolic acid for dullness and texture, lactic acid for drier or more sensitive skin, salicylic acid for oily and breakout-prone skin, or a TCA blend for more noticeable pigmentation and texture concerns.

Superficial peels usually cause only mild flaking, while medium peels work deeper and you should expect more visible shedding for a few days. Results tend to build over a series of peels rather than from one appointment, and protecting your skin from the sun afterwards matters as much as the peel itself.

Where appropriate we carry out a patch test before your first peel, and we may ask you to prepare your skin at home beforehand so the peel works evenly and the chance of irritation is lower.

What Happens on the Day

  1. Consultation and patch test

We discuss your skin history, medication and lifestyle, and carry out a patch test where the peel calls for it. We also explain how to prepare your skin and ask you to stop retinoids for a set period beforehand.

  2. Cleanse and degrease

Your skin is cleansed and degreased so the acid can penetrate evenly. Delicate areas such as the corners of the nose and lips may be protected.

  3. Eye protection and application

Your eyes are covered, then the peel is applied evenly across the treatment area. Most people feel warmth or tingling, and we keep checking in with you throughout.

  4. Timed contact

The peel is left on for a carefully timed period that depends on the acid, its strength and how your skin is reacting. Amina watches the skin closely the whole time.

  5. Neutralise and calm

Where the peel requires it, it is neutralised to stop its action. Your skin is then soothed and protected with a calming product and a high factor SPF.

Aftercare

  • Wear SPF 50 every day and stay out of strong sun
  • Expect flaking for a few days, depending on the depth of the peel
  • Let the skin shed naturally and never pull at peeling skin
  • Use only a gentle cleanser and the moisturiser we recommend
  • Avoid retinoids, scrubs and other acids until we say it is safe
  • Skip saunas, swimming and heavy exercise for 48 hours

Chemical Peels Questions

How do I know which peel is right for me?
That is what the consultation is for. Amina looks at your skin type, sensitivity, skin tone and main concern, then recommends a specific peel and strength. If a peel is not the best option for you, she will say so.
Will my skin visibly peel?
It depends on the depth. Lighter peels often cause only slight flaking that most people barely notice. Medium peels usually lead to more visible shedding for a few days, so we will help you plan around work or social events.
Who should not have a chemical peel?
Peels are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, on sunburnt, broken or infected skin, or if you have an active cold sore. Recent use of certain acne medications, some skin conditions and a tendency to scar or pigment easily also need careful discussion first.
Can I travel from Houghton Regis or Leighton Buzzard for a peel?
Of course. Houghton Regis is right next to Dunstable, and Leighton Buzzard and Toddington are a short drive away. We share the exact address when you book, and you can reach us on WhatsApp if you need help finding us.
When will I see results?
Many people notice brighter, smoother skin once any flaking has settled. Pigmentation and texture usually need a series of peels and good daily SPF, and results vary.
